What are we doing?
The worldwide mobile commerce (m-commerce) marketplace is growing rapidly, enabled by an increasing use of micro-payments and retail integrations at point-of-sale (POS). While network operators are still the main payment processor, third-party systems are being made available which can also process mobile payments (including micro payments). MEF has been leading in this area to facilitate discussion with relevant industry parties to gain insight into the opportunities of M-Commerce.
Why are we doing it?
The combination of these services makes it feasible for businesses to handle an extremely large volume of low value sales without needing an extensive chain of retail locations. In addition to purchases like ringtones, music tracks and games, the growth in micro-payments has come from the purchase of items like car parking and cinema tickets.
MEF Americas is producing a Mobile Commerce Guide to help brands, content producers and retailers better understand how to leverage the mobile device to drive customer acquisition, retention and most importantly, conversion. The Guide will be divided into sections to address various aspects of M-Commerce, highlighting industry challenges, commercial best practices, benefits and case studies. This webinar serves as a precursor to the content which will be contained in the MEF Guide and will provide an overview of the business models available and the opportunities they present.

Andy Kleitsch, CEO - Billing Revolution
Andy is a serial entrepreneur bringing a deep background in mobile operator billing technology and mobile data product management. Prior to founding Billing Revolution Andy was the Sr. Manager of the AT&T Wireless mMode portal. Before entering mobile, Andy was the founder of WeddingChannel.com (a leading wedding planning web destination) which was later sold to the Knot for $80+MM.
Ramesh Kumar, Head of Couponing and Ticketing, Americas - 2ergo
Ramesh heads 2ergo Plc’s (AIM listed as RGO:L) Couponing and Ticketing business in the Americas. Prior to this new role, Ramesh built his business, ActiveMedia Technology (AMT), into a leading international mobile couponing and ticketing platform provider with presence in the UK and India. AMT is an innovator in the mobile marketing space in India and was sold to 2ergo in July 2009. The business grew organically to profitability without external funding, through customers like Orange, Sprint, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Airtel, Blockbuster, P&G and others.
Ramesh is an expert in the mobile marketing industry, having presented his work at forums like Mobile World Congress (3GSM) as well as having previously been the Deputy Chairman for Britain’s Mobile Marketing Association. Prior to ActiveMedia Technology, Ramesh was an Account Director and member of the leadership team at netdecisions (now Agilisys). netdecisions. Ramesh holds a BA and MEng in Engineering, Econonmics and Management from Oxford University and an MSc. in Operations Management from University of Pennsylvannia.
Ran Farmer, Managing Director - Netbiscuits
Ran joined Netbiscuits in 2005, responsible for sales and marketing in the North American region. Prior to working for Netbiscuits he founded and managed two technology businesses in the field of communications and mobile services in Eastern Europe. Before he worked for consultancy firms such as KPMG, Peat Marwick, Booz, Allen & Hamilton and was partner at Deloitte & Touche. Ran holds a Master’s Degree in industrial administration and policy from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Bachelor of Sciences degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
Gary Schwartz, CEO – Impact Mobile
Gary Schwartz founded Impact Mobile in 2002 having worked in the IT and telecommunications industry for over 20 years. Over the past eight years, Gary has played a leadership role in the mobile industry, running the first cross-carrier short code campaign in North America, and founding the CWTA Mobile Content Committee to establish policies and increase awareness to promote standards and adoption. Gary is the founder and co-chair of the Mobile Marketing Committee for the US Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and is a director on the board of the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF).
Presently, Gary is working actively with the National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) to drive a joint task force on retail with a vision to build a "Mobile Store of the Future". Gary is an honors graduate from Columbia University and the Stanford University Center in Tokyo. He is the recipient of the Macromedia People Choice Award as well as the Dodge Foundation award for innovation.
